Chemical Applications
San Tan Landscape can remove and prevent weeds in your landscape.  The presence of weeds indicates that something is being done incorrectly in mowing, feeding or watering - or in all three.  Effective control of weeds is based on correct identification and professional methods of application.  If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment for a free estimate, please call our office at 480-753-0711.

Soil Pre-Emergence Applications
Pre-emergence herbicides are used to control weeds before the weed seeds germinate.  To be effective, the herbicide should be applied two to three weeks before weed seeds germinate.  This will prevent unsightly dead foliage appearing after the weeds die and should control weeds for several months.

This can be useful in many areas such as landscape beds containing trees and shrubs, tree rings, perennial plantings, annual flower beds, and in mulched and graveled areas.

Hand weeding is time consuming and more expensive, so methods that prevent weeds can reduce the cost of a weed-control program.

Soil Post-Emergence Applications
Post-emergence herbicides are used to kill weeds after the weed plants are up and growing.  To be effective, most post-emergence herbicides must be absorbed through the leaves.

Herbicides
Weeds germinate year-round in lawns and landscape beds, so a weed-control program must address both summer and winter weeds.  Fall applications can be part of a program to control winter weeds as well as to get a start on controlling summer weeds.  By applying pre-emergence herbicides in the fall, you can start off the spring with fewer weed problems instead of playing cath-up due to fall or early spring weed germination.

Fertilization
Visual inspection of trees and shrubs is often the best overall factor to use in making fertilization decisions.  Tree and shrub fertilization is only one part of total plant maintenance.

Fertilization may not benefit a plant if it is under stress from poor soil aeration or drainage, saturated soil, insufficient light or space, or excessive pest problems.  However, fertilization may be needed as part of a maintenance program to increase plant vigor or to improve root or top growth.

Fertilizer should be applied when plants need it, and when it will be most effective.  Late summer and early fall fertilization may stimulate new growth that is not winter hardy, and summer drought may interfere with nutrient uptake, but spring, fall, and winter applications receive the most benefit.
