The term annual applies to garden flowers that complete their life cycle in the span of just one growing season.  To have continuous color year around the flowers need to be changed out in Spring and Winter. There are several varieties that grow the best in our Arizona climate.

Petunias - one of the most popular of all summer annuals providing continuous color all summer. 

Pansies - most colourful of all annuals and can flower most of the year.
